Virus Live Scan-WinDefender 2008

A new spyware system has emerged-designed to look nearly identical to Windows Security Center. The trojan installs on your computer, and claims that the only way to remove it is by purchasing "WinDefender 2008" for $40. The malware actually blocks all outgoing internet connections (except to download WinDefender 2008), making it difficult to download a real malware remover. Here's a screenshot of the fake program.

So how can you keep your computer safe? The best way is to invest in a trusted anti-spyware and anti-malware program. Always keep your virus definitions up to date as well. New viruses are released every day, so it is important update your anti-virus software.

Some recommended products for maintaining a virus free computer are:
SpywareStop, which scans and removes spyware, trojans, dialers, and adware. If your computer is running Windows Vista, AntiSpyware 2008 is Vista Certified. Either program will be able to remove any malware or viruses your computer may have.
